General skincare
advice
General health
Skin is our body’s largest organ, therefore skin issues (such as acne) may reflect general inner-health status. The best and easiest way to start your health check is to contact you doctor, as well as to do a complete blood test.
Vitamins
Vitamins C, E, A, D, etc. are known for their positive effects on skin. You should consult with your doctor at all times prior to starting to take any supplements, as many studies have noted the adverse effect of vitamin intake when unnecessary.
Healthy diet
Maintaining healthy and balanced diet, as well as consuming good quality wholesome foods, such as but not limited to greens, vegetables and fruits - is one of the best ways to get enough nutrients and vitamins and will have positive effect on skin.
Sun exposure
10-20 minutes of sun exposure daily will generate enough of vitamin D. Whereas chronic sun exposure without SPF will inevitably result in photoaging. If you want beautiful skin, SPF is a must.
Hydration
Drinking enough water is important for overall health and skin in particular. A lot of skin conditions can be amplified when it is dehydrated. On the other hand, if your skin tends to get "puffy", try to drink the most in the morning/afternoon time, and not in the evening.
External factors
There are studies proving negative effects that smoking, pollution, sleep deprivation have on overall health and skin in particular.
If you can avoid all of that - your skin will start looking even better!
Over-skincaring
Skincare is there to help with the skin concerns you might have. If you have none - there is no need to buy a ton of products. Work with the needs of your skin and not with what marketing campaigns are pushing.
When unnecessary - skincare can be overdone.
Anti-ageing
In terms of skin sagging or wrinkling due to age, there are very little ingredients that have scientifically proven anti-ageing effect. Whenever you consider buying a product, be mindful of the claims it has versus what actual active and supporting ingredients it consists of.
Cleansing
We believe that while skincare starts with your general health, cleansing is definitely the step two. Cleansing should be gentle, dependant on the amount/nature of makeup you are wearing, as well as it needs to suit your skin type.
For deeper cleanse (evening) - we're huge fans of oil cleansers, otherwise, low PH (5.5 or lower) gels/balms.
Cool Ingredients
We believe in science, therefore, if you have any skin concern, we would recommend purchasing products that contain the ingredients with proven efficacy, such as Vitamin C, retinol, Vitamin E, lactic acid, etc.
There is an eternity between clinical trials and a moisturiser tests by 10 women during 10 days.
Nono Ingredients
Generally speaking, the following ingredients should not be part of your skincare products:
fragrance, artificial dyes, alcohol denat, SLS and chemical/synthetic sunscreens.
We're not huge on silicones either, unless you're after their skin smoothing properties.
Allergies
If you have any allergies, we are recommending to do a quick 5 minute patch-test to any skincare prior to applying it to the face, neck or chest.
You never know, what you may be allergic to.
